Fast of Gedaliah – צום גדליה


Arbit Motsa-e Rosh Hashanah (If not Shabbat)

  • Start from Utshuat Tsaddikim.
  • Regular until the ’Amidah.
  • The ’Amidah is said with Ata Honantanu and its ’Asseret Yeme Teshubah additions.
  • “Shubah Amonai ’Ad Matai” and Uba Letsion are NOT said.
  • We then say the Selihot with the additions for the ’Aseret Yeme Teshubah.
  • We read psalm 130 (Mima’akim) instead of psalm 121 (Essa Enay El HeHarim).
  • After ’Alenu, say the Habdala (over wine only) as in the Rosh Hashanah book, on page 283.
  • We do NOT blow the shofar any more after Rosh Hashanah.

Shahrit Tsom Guedaliah

  • New York: The sifre Torah in the small Synagogue are in white.
  • Start at 7:30 a.m.
  • “Tehillat,” “Amonai Hu Ha-Elokim,” and “Amonai Melekh” are to the Rosh Hashanah tunes.
  • ’Amidah and its Hazarah are like on Rosh Hashanah including the Kedushah to the Yede Rashim tune.
  • Immediately after the Hazarah we say “Abinu Malkenu.”
  • Follow the service as indicated in the Fast book, adding after every Shelosh Esre Middot “Vesalahta…”
  • Sefer Torah – Vayehal Moshe.
  • En Kelohenu is recited to the Yede Rashim tune.
  • Bareku and ’Alenu to Rosh Hashanah tune.

At the end announce: “Minhah this afternoon, will commence at 6:00 P.M.”

Minhah Tsom Guedaliah

  • Start as indicated in the Fast book with Tallet & Tefillin.
  • In Ashre we sing “Tehillat” to the tune of Yede Rashim.
  • Sefer Torah: Vayehal Moshe.
  • ’Amidah and its Hazarah melodies are like on Rosh Hashanah including the Kedushah to the Yede Rashim tune.
  • Immediately after the Hazarah we say “Abinu Malkenu.”
  • Follow the service as indicated in the Fast book, adding after every Shelosh Esre Middot “Vesalahta…”
  • Conclude as indicated in Fast book.
  • Remove Tallet and Tefillin.

Arbit

  • Start with “Utshu’at…”
  • ’Amidah with the additions of ’Asseret Yeme Teshubah.
  • Immediately after the ’Amidah the Selihot are recited with the additional parts for the ’Asseret Yeme Teshubah (p. 392).
  • Psalm 130 is said instead of Psalm 121.
  • Barekhu and ’Alenu are to the tune of Rosh Hashanah.
  • We DO NOT blow the Shofar after Rosh Hashanah.
