SIVAN 1-5

  • Regular, no Tahanunim

Shabuot, First Day

Minhah Eve of Shabuot

  • Regular without change in melodies even if it is still Shabbat.

‘Arbit of Shabuot 1st Day

Note: This can never fall on Shabbat.

  • After Minhah, Parnas comes to the Tebah.
  • The Hazzan gives out the Mitsvot for the Zemirot and Haftarah.
  • The Parnas then returns to his seat and bows to the Hazzan who starts the 1st Passuk of Psalm 68, Yakum Elokim. The choir and Kahal take over.
  • The melody for the first part of the Kaddish is after the one for the Azharot. The second part is according to the festive melody.
  • Service continues as on Shabbat till Hashkibenu.
  • The choir starts Elleh Mo’adeh and is repeated by the Hazzan.
  • If it is Motsae Shabbat, we announce: “Omerim Vatodienu.”
  • After Kaddish Titkabbal, the Choir starts Shir Lamaalot LeDavid Samahti.
  • Kaddish, in festive melody, followed by Alenu.
  • The Yigdal is in the Fetival melody.

Shahrit Shabuot 1st Day

  • Zemiroth are started with “Tehilat” in the Azharot melody.
  • “Amonai Melekh” is chanted in the Azharot melody also.
  • Include Psalm 68, Yakum Elokim…
  • If the minyan is late, introduce the Kaddish with “Ribi Hananiah Ben ‘Akashia…” after the “Great Hallel” (Hodu Le’el Hashamayim Ki le’olam Hasdo).
  • The Kaddish in Azharot melody is introduced from “Haboher Beshire.”
  • In Hazara, Kedushah is in Azharot melody.
  • At the end of the Hazara, the full Hallel is read in festival and Azharot melodies with the Berakhah “Ligmor Et HaHallel.”
  • Hallel is followed by Kaddish Titkabbal.
  • New York: Afterwards the Hazzan recites the prayer for the Government, the congregation, and the State of Israel. We no longer say the special Hashcabot of the day.
  • Sefer Torah
    • Two Sifre Torah:
  • a- Yitro.
  • b- Maftir
  • The Misheberakh includes the phrase: “Veyesamehenu Hakadosh Barukh Hu Besimhat Haregel…”
  • Recite the Kaddish after each Sefer Torah.
  • At the end of Mashlim and before the Mi Sheberakh, recite the Kaddish.
  • While the 2nd Sefer Torah is placed on the reader’s desk and while the 1st one is removed, we sing “Elokim Tseba-ot.”
  • Recite the Kaddish after the 2nd Sefer Torah and “En Ka-el Yeshurun” while the 2nd Sefer Torah is removed.
  • Haftara is recited.
  • Philadelphia: The prayer for the Governments and the Congregation are recited after the Haftarah and Hashcabot.
  • Yehi Hasdekha by the next Hazzan.
  • Sifre Torah are returned, as usual.
  • Offerings are ended with: “Veyesamehenu, HaKadosh Barukh Hu, Besimhat Hareghel…”
  • The Misheberakh includes the phrase: “Veyesamehenu Hakadosh Barukh Hu Besimhat Haregel…”
  • The sermon follows the return of the Sefer Torah.

Mussaf 1st day of Shabuot

  • The Mussaf is started from page 285.
  • En Kelohenu and Adon ‘Olam melodies’ are Azharot.
  • New York: The sermon is given before ‘Alenu.
  • Philadelphia: The sermon is given after the return of the Sifre Torah.

Minhah 1st day of Shabuot

  • The first half of the book of Ruth is read by those in attendance. Each takes turn with one Passuk. The same is for the Mitsvoth Asseh listed in the Azharot.
  • Minhah is as indicated in the book.
  • Psalm 86 (Yakum Elokim) is recited antiphonally by the Hazzan and the Yehidim.
  • No Hashcabot and no Pessukim.

SHABUOT SECOND DAY

‘Arbit of Shabuot 2nd Day

  • After Minhah, Parnas comes to the Tebah.
  • The Hazzan gives out the Mitsvot for the Zemirot and Haftarah.
  • The Parnas then returns to his seat and bows to the Hazzan who, if it is Shabbat the Hazzan starts with Psalm 92 & 93, otherwise he intones the whole first Passuk of Psalm 86, Yakum Elokim.
  • The melody for the following Kaddish is the Despedida.
  • Service continues as on Shabbat till Hashkibenu.
  • If it is Shabbat we say Veshameru.
  • The choir sings Elleh Mo’adeh and is repeated by the Hazzan.
  • Kaddish Titkabbal follows the Amidah.
  • If it is Shabbat, we say Me’en Sheba’.
  • We then recite Psalm 122 (Samahti).
  • Kaddish to the Despedida melody, Alenu, and Yigdal.

Shahrit for the 2nd day of Shabuot

  • Zemiroth are started with “Tehilat” in the Despedida.
  • “Amonai Melekh” is chanted in the Despedida melody also.
  • On Shabbat we add the first first to psalm 92.
  • Include Psalm 86 (Yakum Elokim) after Psalm 91 (Yosheb Beseter).
  • If the minyan is late, introduce the Kaddish with “Ribi Hananiah Ben ‘Akashia…” after the “Great Hallel” (Hodu Le’el Hashamayim Ki le’olam Hasdo).
  • The Kaddish in Despedida is introduced from “Haboher Beshire.”
  • In Hazara, Kedushah is in Despedida melody.
  • At the end of the Hazara, the Full Hallel is read, with festival and despedida melodies, with the Berakhah “Lighmor Et HaHallel.”
  • Hallel is followed by Kaddish Titkabbal.

  • No Hashcabot, no tsidkatekha, even on Shabbat, and no Pessukim.
  • At the conclusion we recite “Bashana…” on page 473.

‘Arbit Motsa’e Shabuot

  • Start from: “Uts__hu’at Tsadikim…”
  • Continue as on Motsa’e Shabbat.
  • Before ‘Amidah, announce “Omerim Ata Honantanu.”
  • After ‘Amidah, Yehi Shem, Kaddish Titkabbal, Shir Lama’alot, Kaddish for Abelim, Barekhu and ‘Alenu.
  • Habdalah over win__e only, (If Shabbat over Besamim and Ner also after Kaddish Titkabbal) starting with Sabri Maranan.

Shahrit Isru Ha

  • Regular Hol until after the ‘Amidah.
  • No Tahanunim (until the 12th day of Sivan).
  • After Kaddish Titkabbal, immediately sing Barukh Habbah instead of the Psalm of the day (see the prayer book).

SIVAN 8-12

  • All services regular, but without Tahanunim.
