  • As other ‘Arbit services of Hol HaMo’ed.

Mishmarah

  • Starts at 10:30 P.M. in the Succah lasting till shortly after Midnight. Hazzanim and Yehidim Take turn in reading Parashiot from the books of Debarim and Beresheet.

Shahrit Hosha’anah Rabbah

(Sifre Torah cloaks are all white)

  • Starts at 7:00 A.M.. If Sunday, then at 8:00 A.M.
  • Zemirot, started with Tehillat in Kippur tune, are read like on Shabbat in a somewhat faster pace.
  • Amonai Hu Ha-Elokim and Amonai Melekh are sung to Kippur tunes.
  • The Hekhal doors are open from Barukh She-amar.
  • Psalm 92 and 93 are not recited in the Zemirot.
  • After singing the Shirah, we sing the Nishmat until Yishtabah as on Kippur.
  • The Kaddish is sung to the tune of Ahot Ketanah.
  • The rest is like Shahrit of Hol HaMo’ed. Kedushah is Rosh Hashanah tune. Dukhan by the Cohanim. If no Cohanim, then the Bircat Cohanim is in the regular Shabbat tune.
  • After Kaddish Titkabbal, the Hekhal is not closed until after the taking out of the Sifre Torah.
  • After the Hazarah, The Berakhah for the Lulab is said and the FULL hallel is read. The Melodies are festive.
  • After Hallel, Kaddish Titkabbal.
  • The SEFER TORAH and the MUSSAF readings are also like those of Hol HaMo’ed.
  • Hakkafot:
  • After the Mussaf, the Parnas comes to the Tebah and the Mitsvot are announced as follows:
    1. …Sheyiftah Et Sha’are Hahekhal Lehosha’anot…”
    2. …Sheyotsi Sefer Hatorah Harishon (New York: 1-7, Philadelphia: 1-3) Lehosha’anot…”
    3. …Sheyelaveh Et Sifre Hatorah Lehosha’anot…”
    4. Cohanekhah, etc.
  • The Hekhal remains open during all the Hosha’anot.
  • All the Sifre Torah are brought AROUND the Reader’s desk the same way as we do for Kal Nidre.
  • The Hazzan starts the Hakafot from p. 436 as in other days.
  • ONLY the Selihot parts of the Hosha’anot are read with the Hazzan’s Tallet over the head.
  • The Shofar is blown in every Hakafah after the Rahamana and Vaya’abor.
  • At the end of the last Hakafah, we sing the Yimlokh to the Yamim Nora-im tune and the Sifre Torah are brought back to the Tebah in the longer path, namely: after the words “Mizmor Ledavid” are said the Sifre Torah are moved downwards from the left of the tebah, to the back and then forward like for the returning of the Sifre Torah of Kal Nidre.
  • After Shubah, Kaddish Titkabbal in FRONT of the Hekhal.
  • The Hekhal is closed after Kaddish Titkabbal.
  • In returning to the Tebah, the Hazzan starts “Ke-ayyal Ta’arokh…” and recites after it the Kaddish Yehe Shelama.
  • En Kelohenu, preceded by Kaveh, is sung to the tune of Yede Rashim.
  • ‘Alenu, Barekhu and Adon ‘Olam are sung to the Rosh Hashanah tunes.
  • No Pesukim
  • We strike the extra Arabot on the ground. (Minhag Nebi’im)
