Note: Sifre Torah cloaks are all white through Kippur.

Arbit Shabbat Teshubah (Even if it is Motsa-e Rosh Hashanah)

  • Note: It is preferable to give out printed Amidot for Shabbat Teshubah since following the Amidot in the book requires several page turns.
  • After Minhah announce the Mitsvot for the Zemirot, “Amonai Hu Ha-Elokim” (Shammash) and Haftarah.
  • Kabbalat Shabbat is regular EXCLUDING Bame Madlikin (since Kippur will occur this coming week).
  • The Kaddish after “Amar Ribi El’azar” is recited by the Abel, if any.
  • The Kaddish, in Yede Rashim melody, is introduced from “Lebetekha.”
  • The Kaddish before the ‘Amidah, is ended low from “Da-amiran.”
  • In the “Me-en Sheba'” we say “HAMELEKH Hakadosh” instead of “HA-EL Hakadosh.”
  • Hazzan starts the final Kaddish as on Rosh Hashanah.
  • “Alenu Leshabeyah” and “Barekhu” as on Rosh Hashanah.
  • Yigdal is as on Rosh Hashanah to the Et Sha’are Ratson tune.

Shahrit Shabbat Teshubah

  • Zemirot are started with “Tehillat” in Yede Rashim melody.
  • “Amonai Hu Ha-elokim” is chanted in Selihot tune.
  • “Amonai Melekh” is chanted in Selihot tune also.
  • The “Ubkhen” before Yishtabah is sung by the Hazzan to its special tune. Similarly, the Berakhah has its special tune.
  • Kaddish in Yede Rashim melody as in Rosh Hashanah is introduced from “Haboher Beshire.”
  • The Hazarah and its responses are like on Rosh Hashanah (starts from page 402.)
  • “Abinu Malkenu” is NOT said on Shabbat.
  • In the Hazzan’s MiSheberakh for the Kahal we end with: “Veyahzirekhem, HaKadosh Barukh Hu, BiTshubah Shelemah, Veyikhtobkhem BeSefer Hayim Tobim…”
  • Sefer Torah Shabbat Teshubah
    • Parashat Ha-azinu (B,D,F,G,I,J,M,N) or Vayelekh (A,C,E,H,K,L).
    • Haftarat Shubah is customarily read by the Minister. The last Pesukim “Mi El Kamokha…” are first said by the Kahal and then repeated by the Reader.
    • In the Yehi Hasdekha we sing “Tehillat” in Shabbat tune.
    • End the offering formula: “Sheyahzirenu, HaKadosh Barukh Hu, BiTshubah Shelemah, Veyikhtebenu BeSefer Hayim Tobim…”
  • Mussaf Shabbat Teshubah
    • Mussaf of Shabbat Teshubah with its responses (including the ‘Asseret Yeme Teshubah additions) is as on Rosh Hashanah including the Keter and Bircat Cohanim in Rosh Hashanah tune. The Hazzan puts his Tallet over the head. (No Seganim).
    • En Kelohenu in Yede Rashim tune.
    • “Alenu Leshabeyah” as on Rosh Hashanah.
    • The Hazzan lowers his Tallet at end of ‘Alenu.
    • Adon Olam melody as in Rosh Hashanah (Yede Rashim Tune.)

Minhah Shabbat Teshubah

  • Regular with “Tehillat” in Shabbat tune.
  • ‘Amidah (according to the ‘Asseret Yeme Teshubah) in Rosh Hashanah tunes.
  • Perpetual Hashcabot, Tsidkatekha, and Pesukim.

Arbit Motsa-e Shabbat Teshubah

  • Regular until the ‘Amidah.
  • The ‘Amidah is said with its ‘Asseret Yeme Teshubah additions.
  • “Shubah Amonai ‘Ad Matai” is NOT said because Kippur occur in the coming week.
  • After Uba Letsion we say the Selihot with the additions for the ‘Aseret Yeme Teshubah.
  • Omit in the Habdalah the word “Sheshet.”
  • We read psalm 130 instead of psalm 121.
  • We do NOT blow the shofar after Rosh Hashanah.
